Instructor Background
My name is Scott Wallen. I am the Industrial Maintenance Instructor at The Bullitt County Area Technical Center. I attended Detrick Vocational School while I was still in high school. As an adult, I served a four year apprenticeship in a machine shop, attending Ahrens Vocational School at night. The entire time I was training in the machinist field, my courses included machine shop practices, hydraulics, welding, blueprint reading, technical math in both trigonometry and geometry, mold making, and also die making. I worked as a machinist for over twenty years, and then in 2007, branched over into industrial maintenance. I continued my education by attending Jefferson Community and Technical College and graduated in May of 2009 with my Associates of Applied Science.
My working experience has given me a great deal of exposure to a wide variety of manufacturing and machining processes. I know fro experience that a multicraft approach to industrial maintenance, which incorporates electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, and hydraulics, is now, and will continue to be, the most technically challenging, and strongly in demand career, for our modern industrial base. I also believe integrating safety in the curriculum, and it cannot be overemphasized.
